You assist a senior team lead, to acquire first experience in team leadership. Working under their mentorship, you handle the operational aspects of the team.

What's expected

This level requires

Skills & craft

  • Display basic people, work and business management skills.
  • Highly organised: able to manage other's work, not just theirs.
  • Starting to deep dive into specifics of team management.

Problem solving

  • Anticipate team blockers in design, are pro-active in resolving them.
  • Identify and propose solutions to design resourcing problems in their team.
  • Outsource special talent when required (illustration, photography, ...)

Impact on the company

  • Helps a senior manager ensure smooth design operation in their team.
  • Helps champion continuous improvement in design for their team.

Communication

  • Gives clear, action oriented direction in their area of expertise.
  • Catches communication gaps in the team, jumps in as a "translator".

Collaboration

  • Help set and deliver goals, roadmap, operational excellence, positive P&L.
  • Help pitch and implement expertise-specific improvements in the team.

Ownership

  • Focused on managing design traffic in short-to-medium term projects.
  • Support narrow to medium business verticals and functions.

People Management

  • Can manage up to 2 direct reports in the same team, if needed.
  • Conduct effective performance reviews, with senior manager's support.
  • Work to align team resourcing over short- and medium- term projects.
