This level runs in parallel with M1 – Associate Director. IC4 focuses on deep expertise and influence without formal people management responsibilities, while M1 is the equivalent level for those who step into formal people leadership.

Skills & craft

  • Strong systems thinker. Sets direction for technical work.
  • Recruits up to senior-level roles and independently manages onboarding and offboarding.
  • Applies mid-level analytical thinking to solve structural or cultural issues.
  • Leads projects and presents in front of leadership.
  • Begins leading 1:1s with more senior team members to support them on T&C-related topics.
  • Builds psychological safety within teams.
  • Role models people-first thinking and coaching-oriented behavior, while still on the IC track.
